The pandemic brought sports to a halt in many parts of the world. The Philippines is no different. But Coach Noli Ayo, convenor of the Mindanao Peace Games, and Akiko Thomson-Guevara OLY, the President of the Philippine Olympian Association, would not let sports leaders and coaches stand idly by. They teamed up to create an online learning experience for sports leaders and coaches called the Online Sports Leadership Program. It’s aspiration: to promote a sports culture guided and shaped by Olympic values of Excellence, Respect and Friendship Two years later, the OSLP grew big enough to organize a national summit and bring the people who particpated online in one physical space.
With 6 batches, the OSLP already has numerous Filipino sports leaders join the online event. Each batch invites 12 to 16 participants, who are coaches, sports directors and coordinators of schools, LGUs and organizations. Every batch also feature four Philippine Olympians who talk about their experiences with competition and coaching.
Now that it gathered momentum, the OSLP will be holding a national summit on October 20-22, 2022 in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines. This time, sports leaders will gather to develop a shared vision that will move Filipino sports forward.
The national summit is organized by the Philippine Olympians Association, Palawan State University, Mindanao Peace Games, and Adrenaline Solutions. Similar to the online gatherings, Coach Noli and Akiko OLY will be the facilitators for the event. Coach Marc O. Dagenais will be one of the keynote speakers.
